Bobby and Nikki’s engagement photoshoot took place in Matera, the iconic city of the Sassi. The session exuded a unique elegance, not only because of the couple’s natural charm, but also thanks to the breathtaking backdrop of one of Italy’s oldest and most enchanting cities.
The couple, both young Americans, chose Basilicata for their pre-wedding shoot, largely due to Nikki’s Italian heritage. Despite joking otherwise, Nikki speaks fluent Italian, with a subtle northern accent.
This photoshoot is a perfect example of how much the little details matter in photography. Bobby and Nikki carefully coordinated their outfits—simple yet perfectly matched. From Nikki’s red scarf and sunglasses to the newspaper they brought along, every element reflected the essence of Southern Italy.

Obviously Matera is ideal for a photo session for couple. Walking through the city felt like stepping onto a movie set—a fitting experience, given that Matera often hosts international film productions.

Bobby and Nikki’s couple photoshoot in Matera was nothing short of magical, unfolding across some of the city’s most charming spots. We began by wandering through the winding streets of the Sassi, capturing moments that felt both natural and editorial, perfectly blending documentary realism with a touch of artistic flair.
At one point, the couple decided to enjoy an aperitif—a wonderfully Italian touch that added both charm and authenticity to the session, especially for two young visitors eager to embrace the Italian spirit.
Later, we made our way to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the city. For this part of the shoot, Bobby and Nikki rented a stunning vintage Spider, a symbol of Italian design from the 1950s to the 1970s. With Matera as our breathtaking backdrop and the warm glow of the late afternoon sun, I was able to capture images full of romance and timeless elegance.
As a wedding and couple photographer in Matera, it was an absolute joy to tell the love story of these two wonderful young Americans.
