A couple shoot in Altamura & Matera

A couple photoshoot in Puglia & Basilicata

A place filled with meaning for Jillian: her great-grandfather’s café in Altamura

Jill and Griffin are an American couple who have chosen Italy as the setting for their wedding, drawn by its timeless beauty and romantic atmosphere. They will celebrate their special day in 2027, and I will have the privilege of capturing and telling their story through my photographs. Jill, a radiant and joyful young woman, feels a deep and personal connection to Puglia, as her great-grandparents were originally from Altamura, near Bari.

In search of the perfect wedding venue, Jill and Griffin decided to travel to Puglia this year for a site visit. It was the ideal opportunity to turn their trip into a memorable couple’s photoshoot, set against the enchanting backdrop of Southern Italy.

The session began at “Caffè Ronchi” in Altamura, a place of great sentimental value for Jillian, as her great-grandfather once worked there. The café’s refined vintage charm, combined with the couple’s natural chemistry and warmth, created the perfect setting for a series of truly unique and evocative images.

The magic of Matera for a dreamy pre-wedding photoshoot

After enjoying an aperitif at Bar Ronchi, we made our way to Matera, a city whose breathtaking Sassi and ancient history create the perfect canvas for a pre-wedding photoshoot.

The warm, golden light of the sunset added a magical touch, enveloping the couple in an atmosphere of romance and wonder.

For this session, we didn’t pick a single location; instead, we let the city lead the way, losing ourselves in its charming alleys and discovering unexpected panoramic spots along the journey.

The style of the shoot was almost entirely documentary. I offered only minimal guidance, stepping in occasionally when the couple needed a gentle nudge, allowing their natural chemistry to shine. True to the documentary approach, I avoided using flash, embracing the beauty and warmth of natural light to capture each fleeting, authentic moment.

Conclusion

Jillian and Griffin’s engagement photoshoot was a wonderful opportunity for me to connect with an amazing couple. I am confident that when their big day arrives, they will know that I, as their wedding photographer, will never be intrusive and will always respect the natural flow of their celebration.

These types of sessions are incredibly valuable—not only for the couple, who get the chance to feel comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding, but also for the photographer, as they help build a relationship of trust with the soon-to-be newlyweds.
